Questions about the shortlist
How does the shortlist work?
You say what you run, what the system has to do, your orders a month and your average order. Every system on our Australia rankings that sells each thing you need is kept, priced on your figures with the same sums as the cost calculator, and ordered cheapest first. Systems that cover only part of what you need are listed apart.
Which systems does it choose from?
The 23 systems on our Australia rankings: POS systems, online ordering systems, QR order and pay systems, self-service kiosks, pay at table and digital tab systems. A system counts as selling a product only when its own website says it does.
Which systems cover the most in Australia?
HungryHungry, Impos, Lightspeed Restaurant, Square are on our rankings for 4 kinds of system: online ordering systems, QR order and pay systems, self-service kiosks, pay at table and digital tab systems.
What does the monthly figure include?
The cheapest plan the vendor publishes for the first thing you need, times your devices or sites when it is priced that way, plus its published card rate or commission on the orders you enter. Hardware, setup fees, GST where a price excludes it and anything a vendor does not publish are left out, and a result missing a part says which.
Why is a figure missing for some systems?
37 of the 48 product lines on our Australia rankings do not publish a plan price, and some do not publish a card rate or commission. The shortlist never guesses a price: it shows the part that is published and names the part that is not.
What does "monthly or cancel anytime" filter on?
The vendor's own terms. 3 of the 23 systems on our Australia rankings publish a monthly contract or say you can cancel at any time. Systems with a fixed term, a notice period only or terms that are not published drop out when the box is ticked.
Is the cheapest result the one to choose?
Not on its own. The shortlist puts cheapest first on your figures, but the rankings also score how much of its pricing a vendor publishes and how easy its contract is to leave. Open the review of each system on your shortlist before you call a sales team.
Can I save or share my shortlist?
Yes. Your answers are kept in the page address, so a bookmark or a copied link opens the same shortlist. Nothing is stored on our side.
Have you used these systems?
No. Every price, fee and contract term comes from the vendor's own website and is dated, and the reviews say what each vendor's blog says its products do. Nothing on the shortlist is from our own use.
Do vendors pay to appear?
No vendor can pay to be on the shortlist or to move up it. Some links to vendor websites may earn us a referral fee; the disclosure page lists which.
How up to date are these prices?
The figures on this page were read from the vendors' own websites between 9 Oct 2026 and 12 Oct 2026. Each one shows its date when you hover it, and the sources at the foot of the page list every page and date.
